Almaviva e.V.

Music theatre needs strong networks and thrives on cooperation and encounter. Structures are already being put in place at the University of Bayreuth, and a music theatre network has been created in the shape of Almaviva e.V to expand existing contacts - a platform for networking, promotion, encounter, and further education in the field of music theatre.

Almaviva is not only the name of two central figures in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. It also contains an appeal: Alma – viva! The alma mater ought to live on and remain a resource for alumni even after they have left the University of Bayreuth. With this goal in mind, the non-profit association was founded in July 2017 by (former) students of music theatre studies, Johannes M. Gerlitz, Jasmin Goll, and Katja Schneider.

Who Almaviva connects

Almaviva e.V. connects current students, teachers, and alumni of the Music Theatre programmes at the University of Bayreuth and the Research Institute for Music Theatre, and is a strong cooperation partner for the Institute and for research groups. Thus, from the perspective of the students and staff in Bayreuth, it provides a direct connection to practice. At the same time, alumni maintain a connection to their alma mater while the association creates offers that open up cross-institutional networking and further education opportunities.

What we do

Almaviva e.V. organises meetings in Munich, Nuremberg, Bonn, or Dortmund, for example. In addition to attending musical theatre performances, the programmes are framed by discussions with those involved in the production and/or alumni who work at the respective institutions. Since 2020, AlmavivaTalk has provided a format in which - whether virtually, for listening, or in person - the diverse perspectives of members converge on a topic, thus enabling an inter-institutional exchange of experience and ideas.

At present, Almaviva already has over sixty members who work, for example, in dramaturgy, directing, theatre education, press and public relations, artistic operations, orchestra management, theatre marketing, fund-raising, cultural management, and academia, including at the following institutions: Staatstheater Nürnberg, Saarland State Theatre, Hesse State Theatre in Wiesbaden, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Kiel Theatre, Coburg State Theatre, Altenburg Gera Theatre, Theaterhaus Stuttgart, Stuttgart State Opera, Tyrolean Festival in Erl, Ettlingen Castle Festival, Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, and many more.
